Obituary for Peyton March

Peyton Conway March, age 87, of Medfield where he has been a resident since 1960, died after a brief illness at the Ellis Nursing Center in Norwood.

Born in Greenfield, MA, he was the son of the late Robert and Rebecca (Roberts) March. Raised in Shelburne, he attended the Shelburne Public Schools and after moving to Melrose, he graduated from the Melrose High School. He continued his education graduating from Lowell Tech, University of Massachusetts and also attended Babson College.

Mr. March applied to the Mass Maritime Academy at the age of 16 and after training there he joined as a midshipman. When the attack of Pearl Harbor came, he left the Merchant Navy to join the U.S. Navy. His Naval career was one of many stories he loved to share with anyone who would listen.

Of the many committees he served on for the Town of Medfield, Conservation Commission, Drainage Study Committee, the Enterprise Fund Committee, he most enjoyed his many years serving on the Water and Sewer Commission.

After serving his country during World War Two, and finishing college, he joined R.C.A. (Radio Corporation of America), Gould Manufacturing, and completed varied career with Dennison Manufacturing in Framingham as a Mechanical Engineer where he retired from in 1990.

Beloved husband of Georgette (Lafond) March, he also leaves 5 children, Sheryl R. French and her husband Randy of Loveland, OH, Blair R. March, Allison B. March and Darrah C. O’Connor and her life partner Sarah Henken all of Medfield and Deidre C. Sacra and her husband Doug of Wayland, as well as his former son-in-law Neal O’Connor, 11 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Funeral Services and Military Honors will be held Sunday, December 16th at 1:00PM at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Miller Street, Medfield. Those wishing may make a memorial contribution to the Medfield Food Pantry, 496 Main Street, P.O. Box 172, Medfield, MA 02052-0172.
