Our founder Joseph A. Roberts Sr. first entered the funeral service in 1896, in Medfield, working for Alonzo B. Parker, who was the town appointed "undertaker". He purchased the business from Mr. Parker in 1908, and started "Roberts Funeral Home".
His son, Joseph A. Roberts Jr., joined the firm in 1931, and assumed the position of President in 1945. Having previously established funeral homes in Wrentham and Franklin, Joseph Jr. and his wife Florence (Carpenter) purchased the Millis funeral home property in 1952, which continues to be part of the current Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home organization. Joseph Jr. and his wife Florence (Carpenter) raised three daughters, Donna, Emma and Judy, in the Medfield location.
In 1967, H. Tracy Mitchell, son in law of Joseph Jr. joined the firm to continue the family tradition of superior service to Medfield, Millis and surrounding communities. In 1978, upon retirement of Joseph Jr, Tracy assumed the position of President. Tracy and his wife Emmy (Roberts) raised their five children, Michelle, Wayne, Greg, Jennifer and Jessica, in the Medfield location. Tracy's strong desire to maintain and grown the business and the family's legacy would continue in 2009 when his son-in-law Thomas G Caruso joined the family business.
After 50 years of dedicated service to the funeral industry, Tracy retired in June 2017, and sadly passed away 2 months later.
Since 2009, Thomas and his wife Jennifer (Mitchell) have dedicated themselves to continuing the family legacy as 4th generation funeral home owners. They live with their 4 children, Joseph, Nicholas, Margaret and John at the Medfield location. Their desire, and privilege, to serve Medfield, Millis and beyond with the same compassion and dedication of those before them will continue for generations to come.
